Celebrate the diamond anniversary of desegregation at UGA by joining The 1961 Club.

Sixty years ago, Hamilton E. Holmes (BS '63) and Charlayne Hunter-Gault (ABJ '63) became the first Black students to register for classes at UGA. Honor their legacy and help commemorate this moment by making a commitment of $60 or more to The 1961 Club.

The 1961 Club is a special group of donors, named for the year of desegregation at UGA, that helps foster undergraduate student success by:

  • Removing barriers and opening doors for students, regardless of their socioeconomic status
  • Supporting the mission of UGA Black Alumni to retain students and help them complete their degrees
  • Increasing the number of scholarships awarded annually through the endowed Black Alumni Scholarship Fund

It all began with their courage. It continues with our commitment.

Member Benefits:

  • All donors receive the quarterly Black Alumni e-newsletter and a window decal recognizing their proud support of The 1961 Club.
  • All donors who give $196.10 or more in a given fiscal year will also receive a special lapel pin and a year-end impact report of the gifts to the 1961 Club.

If your gift honors/memorializes a pet, please indicate species and owner's names for appropriate acknowledgement.
