Family and friends are gathering together to raise funds for The Adam Cramond Martin Travel Award. This award honors Adam’s life and his accomplishments by providing annual travel awards for students who, like him, had to show resiliency, courage, and character to persevere in school in the face of sometimes overwhelming obstacles.
Adam loved travel- In the US, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Mexico, Canada, Turkey, and his beloved, Japan. For Adam, travel was an opportunity to experience cultures, discuss politics, try foods, learn history, and make friends. He was looking forward to international travel and perhaps an internship abroad as part of his studies at UGA. However, in his second semester he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Adam was tenacious. During four years of treatment that included ongoing chemotherapy and two stem cell transplants, he missed just one semester of school and graduated with honors in both History and Political Science. However, due to his treatments, he was unable to take advantage of travel opportunities and internships; experiences he so wanted to have.
The Adam Cramond Martin Travel Award will help other history students participate in travel that Adam was unable to do. Priority will be given to those who have faced adversity to pursue their degree at the University of Georgia. Travel opportunities include, but are not limited to, conference travel, internships, and courses in an approved study program (domestic and abroad) available at the University of Georgia.
Every gift counts no matter how big or small!
